Visa information

1. General information

A Russian visa is an official permit to enter, pass through, stay in, or live in Russia for a certain period of time. It is a document in the form of an endorsement placed in your passport by a Russian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence. For citizens of Europe, Japan, China, India and of some other countries - visa invitations are issued by the St. Petersburg State University within 5-7 working days. The scanned copy of the invitation will be sent to participant. For citizens of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and of some other countries - visa invitations are issued upon request to the Migration Service (FMS). The invitation is issued 30 days after the documents are submitted by the St. Petersburg State University to the FMS.

April 25, 2020 is the deadline for registering citizens of these countries!

Check whether you need a visa to visit Russia or not at the website of Russian Embassy /Consulate in your country of residence!

If you need a visa, please note:
There are several categories and types of visas depending on the purpose of visit. To take part in the conference or scientific program you should obtain an "ordinary humanitarian" visa, as the purpose of your trip will be "scientific-technical relations".

IMPORTANT!!!

Visa can be issued by a Russian Consulate only if you have
- passport which is valid at least for 6 months after your trip to Russia;
- two empty pages (without any stamps, messages, etc.) in your passport, facing each other, one of which will be used for your visa to be pasted upon;
- the Visa invitation letter by the St. Petersburg State University/the PDMI or by the Russian Federal Migration Service, depending on the agreement on visa entry signed between the Russian Federation and the country of your citizenship.

Note: If you plan to apply for a visa in a country that is not the country of your citizenship, you must also have a valid residence permit in the country of residence. Do not forget find out the validity of the residence permit for the visa obtaining purpose in the Russian consulate in advance.
The processing time for the visa invitation letter is between 2 to 6 weeks depending on the participant's citizenship.

2. Step-by-step instruction to obtain Russian visa for IMSE2020 participants

Step 1 - Register for the Conference
Step 2 - Download the visa form
Step 3 - Fill in the data required and send it with the scanned copy of your passport to Ekaterina Livshits by e-mail imse2020@inno-mir.com

PLEASE NOTE: the invitation is written in Russian as it is addressed to the Russian Consulate.

Step 4 - Apply for a visa at the Russian Consulate (or Russian Visa Center) in the country of residence. When applying for a visa please follow the instructions and recommendations on the website of the Russian Consulate in your country of residence. You will find there an electronic online application form for a visa, the time and cost of obtaining a visa, the visa department schedules. Normal visa processing time at the Consulates is 10 working days. Urgent visa processing time may be 5 or 3 working days. Specify it at the Consulate in the country of residence.
Recently most of the Russian Consulates organized Russian Visa Centers to which they transferred the functions of accepting and processing visa applications. In this case, you will need to apply for a visa to the Visa Center, and not to the Consulate. Please clarify the matter at the Russian Consulate in advance.
