Foreword: Mathematics at the IUM

The present volume is the first collection of articles entirely
consisting of work by faculty and students of the Higher Mathematics
College of the Independent University of Moscow (IUM). Rather than
summarize the contents of the articles themselves, the editors of
this volume, Boris Feigin and Victor Vassiliev, asked us write a few
words about this new and rather unique institution.
